PORTUGAL HOUSE

The rust coloured earth, native pines and aromatic scrub covered dramatic coastline of the Algarve set the scene for the location of this Villa Project in Valle Do Lobo.
Our client, who's Mews house in London we completed a few years ago, came back to us with the brief to design a holiday villa in this beautiful location.
The concept design developed around the accommodation being arranged upside down to traditional norms, with the master suite, two further bedrooms and ancillary spaces located in the shady solid base of the building, cocooned in roughly hewn local stone. In contrast the principle living rooms of elegant concrete frame and glass are located above on the piano noble, affording views over the sparkling sea.
Indigenous planting and an external pergola lead you through to the entry of the building, a void in the otherwise solid base, which, with its retractable glazing allows the blurring of division between inside and outside. The ground floor vestibule gives access to the first floor via a sculptural stair, to the bedrooms and flows out to the terrace and the pool beyond. Developed in conjunction with our partners Critic Studio in Porto, this project is presently in planning and we hope to be on site soon.
